We know a majority of people in Aotearoa New Zealand support a better tax system: one that ensures the wealthiest and big corporates pay their fair share, so we can fund the things that matter  - like schools, hospitals, infrastructure, responses to poverty and climate change -  and support a flourishing economy to improve incomes, living standards, the health of our people and environment.

But so far our political leaders aren’t listening. It’s time we made our support for better taxes loud and clear this election.

We are voting for political parties that commit to tax policies to…

• Generate the revenue we need to fund the things that matter, not make cuts to public goods and services we all rely upon
• Make sure the wealthiest pay their fair share, and address the impact of tax on the least well off
• Close gaps in tax on big corporates

Together we can build a tax system that delivers for everyone!

We should all have access to great schools for our kids, healthy homes for our whānau, fully staffed hospitals when we need care, a functioning transport system to get to where we need to go, clean drinking water and a flourishing natural environment. Taxes are our collective pool that pays for the things that support everyone to live good lives!

But right now our collective pool is being run dry and everyday people are paying the price. Hardworking people are struggling to provide the basics for their families, our schools, hospitals and infrastructure are straining under the weight of underfunding, and our economy is stagnating.

That’s because our tax system is unbalanced: it relies on working people to carry more of the load; while big corporates and the super rich are getting richer from our collective resources without contributing their fair share. Our system is designed to tax work more than wealth. So the wealthiest are able to claim more and more of our wealth, directly increasing inequality and eroding the living standards of ordinary people.

If we shared the load and our wealth better we could replenish our collective pool, fund the things that matter and improve living standards.

There are sensible changes our government can make to the tax system that would build a better future for everyone in Aotearoa. We need to make sure they do!
