Tax on Tuesdays - The Capable State

Join us for our final session for for 2025 in our 'Funding a Better Aotearoa - why we need more revenue' series, co-hosted with the Public Service Association.

This session our panelists Fleur Fitzsimons, Suzanne Snively and Jonathan Boston will address the topic of what it takes to resource a Capable State, in conversation with Glenn Barclay.

Fleur Fitzsimons is the National Secretary of the New Zealand Public Service Association, New Zealand’s largest union. She has previously been a lawyer for the PSA and a Wellington City Councillor. 

Suzanne Snively ONZM DNZM is an economist, formerly a Director on the Board of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. She has been employed or has had governance positions across the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors.  Her current governance positions include Directorships at Experience Wellington, Plant Foods NZ Ltd and as chair of the Board of The Building Intelligence Group (TBIG). She is a specialist advisor to the Neumic Brain Trust and Home Capital Foundation.

Jonathan Boston, ONZM, is Emeritus Professor of Public Policy in the School of Government at Victoria University of Wellington, and former Director of the Institute of Policy Studies and the Director of the Institute for Governance and Policy Studies at Victoria University of Wellington. Jonathan has served a numerous expert advisory bodies and NGO boards. His research interests include: climate change policy ; child poverty; governance; public management; tertiary education funding; and welfare state design. 

Glenn Barclay is the Chair of Tax Justice Aotearoa and the Better Taxes Coalition, and is a former National Secretary of the PSA Te Pūkenga Here Tikanga Mahi.
